Painting people is often the most difficult subject for most artists. This course is for students who struggle with portrait painting, or find the idea of painting portraits overwhelming but would love to try!
We will be exploring:
- Why portraiture is challenging and things to know and do to be successful at it
- Facial anatomy
- Facial standard “norms” and personal variances
- The importance of the right lighting for your subject and how to achieve that
- Looking closely at and drawing the complexities of individual facial features
- Tonal value underpainting
- Mixing skin tones and painting the colours of human features using a limited palette
- How oil glazing techniques help with portrait painting
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a course for absolute beginners, but beginner plus and intermediate students who have a good understanding of colour mixing and tonal values will benefit from taking this course.
