A huge success last session when I taught this workshop for the first time - we had so much fun and look at the owls the group painted! Each student paints a different owl so your work is a highly individual painting, and you learn the techniques you need so that you continue to paint in oils after the course.
Oh, and in this class there will be wine if you would like a glass while you paint :)
In the Step by Step workshops, I demonstrate each stage you need to do, and then you do that step. We will work through the painting process together.
Using oil paints you will learn how these amazing paints build depth and transparency through laying of values and glazing - and end up creating a really good painting.
Great follow-up to Intro to Oils as in this class you will be learning how to create an underpainting plus glazing techniques with oil paint which is not covered in the Intro to Oil Alla Prima class. Also fine to take as a complete beginner, you do not need to take the intro class first. (Intro to Oil does give you more colour theory, paint mixing and tonal value work if you are interested in that.)
You will learn:
- about the basic characteristics of oil paints, what is a medium, what brushes to use etc.
- how to tone a canvas and create an underpainting
- how create value areas of shadows, midtones and highlights
- how to work with mediums to create glazes
- how to build oil paint in layers and then use transparent glazes to create luminosity
You will create:
- a realistic painting of an owl
Oh, and in this class there will be wine if you would like a glass while you paint :)
